Bone leads Texas A&M women past Kansas State

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kelsey Bone scored 22 points, hitting 11 of her 13 shots, to lift No. 22 Texas A&M to an 83-60 victory over Kansas State on Wednesday.

Courtney Walker added 16 points, nine rebounds, and five steals for the Aggies (7-3), who have won their last seven games after opening with losses to three top-10 teams - Louisville, Connecticut and Penn State.

Texas A&M led by eight at the half and pulled away behind Walker, who had 12 of her points after the break.

Haley Texada scored 19 points and Brittany Chambers added 15 to lead Kansas State (7-2).

Chambers only played 28 minutes after spraining her right ankle in the Wildcats' loss to TCU on Sunday. She didn't start, snapping a streak of 101 straight games she had started, but quickly entered the game.

The game was part of a three-day tournament at UNLV.

?Hinduism third largest religion of world; India home to most religions?

Washington: Hinduism is the third largest religion of the world after Christianity and Islam and 97 percent of all Hindus live in three Hindu-majority countries ? India, Nepal and Mauritius, according to a study.

India, which accounts for majority of world?s Hindus, is also home to almost all the major religions of the world, a Pew research said Tuesday.

Pew demographic study ? based on analysis of more than 2,500 censuses, surveys and population registers ? finds 2.2 billion Christians (32 percent of the world?s population), 1.6 billion Muslims (23 percent), 1 billion Hindus (15 percent), nearly 500 million Buddhists (seven percent) and 14 million Jews (0.2 percent) around the world as of 2010.

In addition, more than 400 million people (six percent) practice various folk or traditional religions, including African traditional religions, Chinese folk religions, Native American religions and Australian aboriginal religions.

Reuters

An estimated 58 million people ? slightly less than one percent of the global population ? belong to other religions, including the Baha?i faith, Jainism, Sikhism, Shintoism, Taoism, Tenrikyo, Wicca and Zoroastrianism, to mention just a few, it said.

Pew said overwhelmingly, Hindus and Christians tend to live in countries where they are in the majority.

Ninety seven percent of all Hindus live in the world?s three Hindu-majority countries (India, Mauritius and Nepal), and nearly nine-in-ten Christians (87 percent) are found in the world?s 157 Christian majority countries.

The median age of two major groups ? Muslims (23 years) and Hindus (26) ? is younger than the median age of the world?s overall population (28), it said adding that all the other groups are older than the global median.

Christians have a median age of 30, followed by members of other religions (32), adherents of folk or
traditional religions (33), the religiously unaffiliated (34) and Buddhists (34).

Jews have the highest median age (36), more than a dozen years older than the youngest group, Muslims.

Hinduism, the study said, is the most geographically concentrated of the eight religious groups analysed in this report. Less than one per cent of Hindus live outside Asia and the Pacific.

India, the report said is home to 11 per cent of the world Muslim population ? the second largest after Indonesia.

The 10 countries with the largest number of Muslims are home to fully two-thirds (66 per cent) of all Muslims.

The largest share lives in Indonesia (13 percent), followed by India (11 percent), Pakistan (11 percent), Bangladesh (8 percent), Nigeria (5 percent), Egypt (5 percent), Iran (5 percent), Turkey (5per cent), Algeria (2 percent) and Morocco (2 percent).

Muslims make up a majority of the population in 49 countries. Nearly three-quarters of all Muslims (73 percent) live in these countries.

Although Muslims are a minority in India (14 percent of the total population), India nonetheless has one of the largest Muslim populations in the world. Pew said India has the largest share (47 percent) of
all members of other religions, including millions of Sikhs and Jains.

Outside India, the largest shares of people who belong to faiths in the ?other religion? category are in China (16 percent), Japan (10 percent), Taiwan (7 percent), North Korea (5 percent) and the United States (3 percent).

MIAC football well-represented in recent collegiate All-Star games

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The 2012 football season was one to remember in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and several seniors from around the league were able to extend their careers a little longer thanks to their selection to various national and international All-Star games. The MIAC was represented by one coach and 11 selections in the D-III Senior Classic, the Aztec Bowl and the D-II vs. NAIA Bowl.
?
The MIAC had four players selected to the North roster of the D-III Senior Classic, which was held Friday, Dec. 7, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va. Due to his performance in that game, St. Olaf quarterback Dan Dobson was also invited to join the Division II All-Star team in the D-II vs. NAIA Bowl, which was held Saturday, Dec. 15, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Both games were presented by the Collegiate Developmental Football League. ?The league also had one head coach and six players chosen for the USA All-American Eagles in the Aztec Bowl, which was played Friday, Dec. 14, in Monterrey, Mexico.
?
Dobson was joined by his brother, Ben, a St. Olaf defensive back as well as Carleton defensive back Mike Elder and Saint John's defensive back Bobby Fischer on the North roster in the D-III Senior Classic. Both Dobsons and Fischer were All-MIAC First Team selections in 2012, and Elder was a second-team pick. The four were coached by Al Piascik and the SUNY Maritime (N.Y.) staff in the All-Star game.
?
The North fell to the south, 37-21, with all four MIAC players making contributions. Dan Dobson was 8-for-17 passing for 91 yards with a touchdown, an interception and 22 yards on the ground on seven carries. Dobson got his team on the board with a 30-yard scoring pass with just 1:07 left in the first half to pull the North within two scores - 21-7 - at halftime. Elder had three tackles on defense, Ben Dobson had one tackle, and Fischer also saw the field in the game.
?
Dan Dobson also played quarterback in Saturday's D-II vs. NAIA Bowl game in Virginia, but no stats or results were available at the time of this release.

The Aztec Bowl annually features a team of American Division II and III All-Stars against a Mexican All-Star team from the ONEFA - a league of 17 colleges and universities. With Augsburg Head Football Coach Frank Haege serving as head coach, the All-American Eagles were victorious Friday in Monterrey, rolling to a 49-20 win over the ONEFA Mexico All-Stars. It marked Haege's second-straight win in the game, as he was one of three co-head coaches a year ago in Team USA's 28-14 victory. Stats were not available from Friday's game.

The six MIAC players on Haege's Eagle roster included three of his Auggies - offensive linemen Brian Rud and Eric Dooely and defensive linemen Aaron Perry. Rud was an All-MIAC First Team pick, and Dooley was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team in 2012. A pair of Concordia stars - fullback Brett Baune and Tom Knowlton - represented the Cobbers in the game. Both were All-MIAC First Team selections this season with Baune receiving the Jim Christopherson MIAC MVP award, and Knowlton claiming the Mike Stam Award. Saint John's linebacker Taylor Dammermann was also on the Eagles' roster.

The All-Star appearances concluded a tremendous football season in the MIAC. The league was one of the most successful conferences in Division III, going a collective 16-2 in regular season nonconference games, and following that up with a 5-2 record in the 2012 NCAA Division III Playoffs. St. Thomas went 4-1 in the postseason and advanced all the way to the national championship game, and Bethel advanced to the second round to give the MIAC two teams in the Sweet 16.
?
The MIAC finished with three teams ranked at least 23rd or higher in the final national polls. St. Thomas finished ranked No. 2 in the AFCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll and No. 3 in the D3Football.com Top 25. The Royals were ranked No. 12 by D3football.com and No. 17 by the AFCA, and Concordia was ranked 18th by D3football.com and No. 23 by the AFCA.
